This morning all the art projects were due to be turned in at school so they could be graded before the Family Showcase next week. I nearly forgot all about my ice sculpture because I had been so worried about the Choosing Ceremony and the fact that I have zero idea what I’m going to choose!

But I had to push all of that to the back of my mind because I had to focus.

I had to get an ice sculpture loaded onto a plane.

When I opened the palace freezer, my project looked just like it did when I had left it. And then that funny feeling in my stomach came back.

The sculpture was flawless—a perfect copy of my face. But I didn’t feel like I had made art. I felt like I had pressed a button on a copy machine. Deep inside, I knew this wasn’t what our art project was supposed to be about.
